Abstract
Numerical techniques to characterize the asperities of the micro-topography have been developed and applied for analysing the contact conditions and the wear progress of polymer composites sliding over steel surfaces.
To identify the asperities one by one, an asperity identification technique has been developed. The characteristic features of the asperities are approximated by introducing hemispherical, ellipsoidal, parabolic, conical and pyramid surfaces as substituting surfaces.
The asperity substitution and statistical analysis allow also conclusions about the wear progress of surfaces in sliding contact, based on statistical comparison of the original and worn surfaces.
