Abstract
The construction costs are a key factor for deciding the choice of the construction methods and materials required for any construction project. The emerging trend of modernization in Yemen has caused an ongoing shift from the traditional to the modern building types. These modern buildings depend mostly on imported technologies and materials, moreover considered relatively costly. Practically any attempts to reduce the cost can be achieved only by lowering the required quality, consequently creating less attractive and less durable buildings and built environment. Initially this paper looks into the construction activities in Yemen then uses a local survey and gathered data to scrutinize the construction costs contained by the structural and finishing works, and hence proposes appropriate practices and amendments required for controlling the cost within the construction process in Yemen.
