Abstract
This paper presents system modeling of a quad-band antenna using the singularity expansion method (SEM). To discriminate between the physical complex poles and the nonphysical poles with their corresponding residues for the quad band antenna, a matrix pencil method based on poles energy has been applied to the bore sight impulse response of the antenna. This method determines the model order of the matrix pencil (MP) method based on the pole energies. This improves the performance of the MP method to extract the genuine physical poles and eliminate the nonphysical poles. The proposed scheme is applied to the far field impulse response of a quad band antenna. The poles extracted by the proposed scheme are positioned accurately within the four bands of the tested antenna.
