Abstract
Most of the available online Digital storytelling (DST) tools to write narratives generally do not support the Arabic language and no tools have been developed to improve the writing of narrative targeted on older children (9-12 years old) in Saudi Arabia. Triangulation method (literature review, expert review, and survey) was used to explore what are the requirements for motivating children (9-11 years old) to write e-stories. Educational and technical requirements are generated and combined to form the framework. Based on the result from 13 expert reviews and using a survey sample that collected from 244 different knowledge workers with children in Saudi Arabia, we found that all educational and technical requirements in proposed framework are deemed statistically significant except one: sex segregation. This research presents a novel framework that identifies important educational and technical requirements for motivating child to write e-stories. It can also be used as a baseline to be able to develop an instrument that supports teachers in assessing appropriate DST tools and guide HCI designers.
