Abstract
In the ever-changing world, Information technology (IT) has become an integral part in the education process. It can be used as a method of delivering education as well as a research tool that keeps up with the latest trends and knowledge acquisition. Technology has become an intricate part of everyday life influencing the teaching and learning process. It has greatly contributed towards development of the students' cognitive skills in their learning abilities and knowledge building in the academic setting. The utilization of technology in education carries a significant impact in the classroom setting. This impact is first observed during college years, when students who have used it properly showed a higher-level of analytical thinking, oral presentation skills and exam performances. Despite the clear benefit of IT in a well-developed educational system, the acceptance of introducing new learning modalities into a traditional educational environment requires a well thought out process, supported by academic studies. This current study aims to identify the extent at which female college students that live in a traditional non-technological setting perceive technology-enabled learning. To assess this, a survey was conducted to measure the willingness of students to accept the merging of technology in education and their own readiness to participate in learning. The study was conducted by incorporating technology into two different college courses offered by two departments, library and Information science (LIS) and the English language and Literature Department (ELL) in Princess Nora Bint Abdul-Rahman University. After completion of the two technology enabled courses, a student questionnaire and individual interviews were conducted to evaluate student' opinions of the progression they sensed after their final exams, and the extent of any additional experience and information skills they gained that enhanced their understanding of the subject and its background. The results showed the students recognition of the importance of technology in education and their ability to change their learning process and adopt these new educational methods to optimize their learning experiences. The outcome of the study will help in shifting teaching that is based on traditional methods into a technology-enabled environment.
