Abstract
intermittent renewable energy sources such as wind power, solar power and wave power are highly variable output. Theses energy sources are most of the time not load following. Consequently, renewable energy has limited contribution in power generation and it is difficult to be controlled. It is often stated that, this problem of intermittent renewable can be solved by integration with energy storage.
This paper presents an up-to-date technical review for different energy storage systems. It explains the main working principle of each storage technology and highlighting the key advantages, disadvantages and main applications when integrated with power systems.
