Abstract
The application of Viscoelastic Dampers (VEDs) and Magnetorheological Dampers (MRDs) in controlling the vibrations has increased manifoldly due to recent advancement in technology and construction of long span cable stayed bridges. As the bridges are exposed to severe environmental condition, therefore the performance study of VEDs and MRDs under various temperatures is of great importance. Kelvin-viogt and Maxwell mathematical model is adopted to simulate the behavior of VEDs and MRDs, by considering the total/lump mass of the cable in SDOF. In order to verify the effects of temperature we took VED and MRD one by one and plotted the results such as displacement, velocity and acceleration verses time in addition to some other important parameters. These results validates that the higher the temperature the lower the performance of dampers and the lower the temperature better the performance of dampers, but up to certain temperature limit, beyond which the temperature has no significant effect on dampers.
