Abstract
In this paper, a new pictorial visualization tool which can represent knowledge about the derivation of classes of forms is presented. The tool is based on an automaton that is typically used to represent strings in the context of formal languages. The basic form of the automaton is developed to accommodate the representation of the process of form synthesis and analysis. The tool in its developed version is used to categorize formal compositional aspects of architectural forms.
