Abstract

Engineering Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Science & Technology Technology
The Finite Element Method (FEM) was used to study the influence of edge preparation (hone/chamfer) of cutting inserts on tool stress and temperature during orthogonal cutting of H13 tool steel (46 HRc). Moreover, the results of effective stress, cutting temperature, and relative cutting velocity, predicted at the tool-work interface using FEM, were utilized in an attempt to study the influence of tool geometry and cutting conditions on tool flank wear.
