Abstract
This paper presents Bukoor, an experimental Arabic children stories search engine built to help children formulate their queries. It utilizes two main query reformulation techniques: query expansion and query suggestions. Both are developed using test collection bi-gram collocation terms and corrections' query terms generated from Bukoor test collection. It also uses two indexing techniques: Okapi BM25 and Latent Semantic Indexing. Our proposed approach was evaluated using Bukoor children's stories test collection which showed promising results when using our proposed query expansion with Okapi BM25 indexing.
