Abstract
In this paper, a new compact monopole antenna with modified ground plane for ultra-wideband (UWB) systems is presented. The designed antenna is composed of a truncated radiating patch and rectangular slotted ground plane providing relatively extreme wide bandwidth and high impedance matching. The simulated results demonstrate wide operating frequency of 12.2 GHz (from 2.67 GHz to 14.87 GHz), which covers the entire UWB allocated by FCC with nearly omnidirectional radiation pattern. The proposed antenna has a significantly miniaturized structure size of 15 x 10 mm2 and a thickness of 0.9 mm to be suitable for small wireless gadgets. The patch is fed using a microstrip line and printed on a substrate material of Rogers Duriod RT 5880 with relative permittivity of 2.2. The monopole antenna has been analyzed, and optimized in terms bandwidth, impedance matching, radiation characteristics, size, and cost.
