Conference Title: 2017 Nineteenth International Middle East Power Systems Conference (MEPCON) Conference Start Date: 2017, Dec. 19 Conference End Date: 2017, Dec. 21 Conference Location: Cairo, Egypt The interconnections between different AC systems using HVDC can be carried out by different configurations: single-infeed (SIF), multi-infeed (MIF) and multi-terminal (MT) configurations. As it is necessary to model the different configurations of AC-DC systems, a generalized model suitable for both SIF, MIF, and radial MT configurations is presented in this paper. The Newton-Raphson method used for the AC load flow calculations is modified and implemented to be suitable for AC-DC power flow calculations for different AC-DC system configurations. The proposed model is implemented on different AC-DC system configurations using MATLAB script-file programs. The proposed procedure of considering the DC system as a voltage dependent load easily provides robustness DC effect implementation on the AC Jacobian matrix as well as fast and reliable solution. Such enhancement is approved via a widely evaluated comparative study.
