Abstract
Clinic visits are not easy! For patients, doctors, and administrators, the entire process can be exhausting and confusing. Usually, patients arrive at the front-desk and wait in a queue for assistance to begin preparing to be registered or admitted. Moreover, one of the most common patient complaints in clinics are the long and uncertain waiting times to see their doctor without any status updates. This can cause high levels of patient frustration and dissatisfaction. IoT is becoming an increasingly popular solution to healthcare problems. Imagine a patient walks into the clinic for her appointment, and receives a greeting message, an admission push notification and an estimated wait time on her mobile device. This will greatly reduce wait time uncertainty and provide freedom for patients to walk around which could lead to not just better experiences but less wasted money. This paper presents our proposed solution, which we called UrNext. UrNext is a location-aware mobile-based solution to solve the problem of patients queuing at clinics using a Bluetooth Low-Energy Beacons.
