Abstract
Building maintenance is an important task that increases the useful life of buildings. An effective indoor maintenance inspection is required, especially in commercial or residential buildings, to maintain the quality of building operations. In practice, it takes a considerable amount of time to do the indoor building inspection. Using proper techniques such as an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) could improve the current practices. However, it is still challenging to fly UAVs inside buildings for maintenance inspection automatically. In this regard, this paper presents an automated localization of UAVs for an indoor maintenance inspection system. The proposed approach leverages the received signal strength indicator (RSSI) to locate the drone and identify the coordinates for the targeted location that needs maintenance inspection. Timely localization of UAVs provides the foundation for UAV-based building indoor inspection. The test result shows a 94.76% accuracy rate in localization for using UAVs for indoor building inspection.
