Abstract
Conference Title: 2018 Twentieth International Middle East Power Systems Conference (MEPCON) Conference Start Date: 2018, Dec. 18 Conference End Date: 2018, Dec. 20 Conference Location: Cairo, Egypt In the last decades, due to the complexity of power systems, the power system stability became an essential issue all of people who work in power systems sector. The continuously increasing load demand causes the systems to be more sophisticated, and imposes a challenge to keep the system stable and reliable. In Egypt, due to the progressive increase of load demand, the power network is exposed to a voltage stability problem that causes a serious voltage drop in many sectors of the network, and threats the network to be vulnerable to blackouts. This paper introduces a performance assessment to the distribution systems by using a Unified Power Quality Conditioner (UPQC) D-FACTS device. It analyses and evaluates the performance of a real distribution system, which is located in south Egypt. The analysis shows the performance of the selected distribution system, and shows the impact of the UPQC on the performance of the selected system. The analyses applied on the system includes load flow analysis, PV curves analysis, and dynamic (transient) analysis. These analyses are performed by NEPLAN software.
