The title compound, C5H7NO5S, is an ester of methanesulfonic acid and N-hydroxysuccinimide in which the N atom has a flattened pyramidal geometry. The molecular arrangement is stabilized by C-H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen bonds, forming double-layer sheets that are linked via short C=O center dot center dot center dot C=O carbonyl carbonyl interactions to generate a three-dimensional network.
