Novel pentasubstituted 1,8-naphthyridin-2-thione derivatives 9 have been isolated in high yield via a facile one-pot reaction of 3-arylidene-pent-2,4-dione derivatives 3 and cyanothio-acetamide 4 . Plausible mechanistic pathways are presented to account for the unexpected product. The new compounds were established via IR, 1 H-, 13 C NMR, and MS analysis.
