Abstract
There are two unique molecules of the title mononuclear zinc( II) complex, [ Zn( C20H12Cl2N2O2)(C5H5N)], in the asymmetric unit. The Zn II ion is five- coordinate in a distorted square- pyramidal geometry, with the basal plane defined by the two N and two O atoms of the Schiff base ligand and the apical position occupied by the N atom of the pyridine. The N and O atoms of the Schiff base ligand are mutually cis. The molecules are linked by weak C - H center dot center dot center dot Cl interactions into chains along the b axis. Other molecules are arranged diagonally between adjacent chains and bridge the chains through weak C - H center dot center dot center dot O interactions. The crystal structure is further stabilized by weak intra- and intermolecular C H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen bonds and C - H center dot center dot center dot interactions.
