Abstract
A simple and efficient method was developed for synthesis of 2-amino-3-cyanopyridine and 3-cyanopyridine-2(1H)-ones (4a-e, 6a-e) from 2,6-dimethylheptan-4-one, aromatic aldehydes, and malononitrile or ethyl cyanoacetate in the presence of ammonium acetate in good to excellent yields and the structure of targets compounds was characterized by Fourier-transform infrared and H-1 and C-13 nuclear magnetic resonance and mass spectral and elemental analytical data.
