Abstract
A two dimensional hydrodynamical-numerical model for the tides in the Arabian Gulf (from 25-degrees-N to 30-degrees-N and 48-degrees-E to 56-degrees-E) is presented. An explicit finite difference method is developed to solve the partial differential equations representing the tidal dynamics. Chi-square goodness-of-fit test is used to compare the computed results with the observed values and to assess the ability of the model to reproduce tidal dynamics. The difference between the computed results and the observed values is not generally statistically significant. This comparison is made for four partial tides M2, S2, K1, and O1. The model also reproduced the existence of amphidromic points for all major partial tides. The results are presented in the form of tidal charts.
