Abstract
A two-dimensional explicit finite difference hydrodynamical numerical model is developed to reproduce harmonic constants of the tidal constituents, M2, S2, K1, and O1, in the Gulf of Oman and the Strait of Hormuz. A coefficient of horizontal eddy viscosity depending on grid size and water depth is introduced. Tidal elevations along the open boundary in the Arabian Sea are based on results of a coarser grid model and along the open boundary in the Arabian Gulf are based on linear interpolation from observational data. The results are presented in the form of corange and cotidal charts. These charts fill the gap of observational measurements in the area and make it possible to predict the tidal elevation at the coast and in the open sea area with greater accuracy.
