Abstract
In this work, we present a way to use optical limiters, based on a photonic crystal configuration consisting of a bent waveguide with three embedded Kerr-type nonlinear rods, for implementing AND gates. The interconnection of this device with the Y-branch waveguide, operating as a 3 dB coupler, provides a complete logic set. We show that such a configuration demonstrate an all-optical AND gate operation with extremely high contrast between the OFF and ON states. For illustrating the capability and simulating the behaviour of the proposed structure, Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) algorithm and Total Field/Scattered Field (TF/SF) are used. Since the photonic crystal configuration of the all-optical AND logic gate is of easy implementation it makes practical all-optical devices as well as large-scale optical integration is easily implementable.
