Abstract
In this paper, a planar monopole antenna fed by a microstrip line has been proposed. The proposed compact antenna is consists of a circular ring patch and a partial ground plane with a rectangular slot. The measured -10 dB return loss bandwidth of the proposed antenna ranges from 3.4 GHz to 16.76 GHz (132.54%) which almost cover the entire UWB band The nearly stable radiation pattern with a maximum gain of 5.4 dBi makes the proposed antenna suitable for being used in wireless communication and microwave imaging system for medical application.
