Abstract
In many underdeveloped countries, generally the accidents and mortality rates due to traffic road accidents are high. This study is exploring the major causes of road accidents in developing countries. Objectively, this study is focusing on the potential factors in Lahore, Pakistan that influences the number of road accidents. For this purpose, a sample of 300 people is through a well-designed questionnaire. In bivariate analysis, phi statistic and Kendall's tau-b statistic are used to measure the strength of association. For the purpose of inferential analysis, the negative binomial regression model is fitted by using R-Software (version - 3.2.0) in order to identify the significant factors. The fitted model revealed that the age of driver, gender, driving license, time of day, excessive use of cell phones and weather conditions were found to be significant factors that influenced a large number of accidents while driving.
