?-Carbonyl vinyl boronates can be prepared by a visible light induced radical chain addition of an S-acyl dithiocarbonate (xanthate) to the pinacol ester of vinyl boronic acid, followed by treatment with base. © The Royal Society of Chemistry 2005.
