Abstract
A new xanthone has been isolated from Swertia thomsonii C.B Clarke and its structure established as 1,7-dihydroxy-3,8-dimethoxyxanthone on the basis of spectral evidence, particularly 2D NMR. Two known compounds, swertianin (1,7,8-trihydroxy-3-methoxyxanthone) and ursolic acid have also been isolated from the same specie for the first time.
