A simple catalytic asymmetric synthesis of tetrahydrothioxanthenones is presented. The organocatalytic enantio selective domino reactions between 2-mercaptobenzaldehyde and alpha,beta-unsaturated cyclic ketones proceed with excellent chemoselectivity to give the corresponding tetrahydrothioxanthenones in high yields and moderate to good enantioselectivities.
