Abstract
Introduction: Sickle cell disease is associated with activated coagulation system and higher risk of thromboembolic events such as pulmonary embolism and deep vein thrombosis; however, the incidence in children with sickle cell trait is unknown. Promptly, she was started on thrombolytic therapy (reptelase) and further thrombosis workup sent which showed the following results, hemoglobin electrophoresis showed Hb A 60% and HbS 40%, protein C 1.06 IU/ml (Normal value: 0.5-1.4), Protein S 0.79 IU/ml, antithrombin III 108 %, factor V normal, negative JAK 2 V6 17F and prothrombin G20210A mutations.
