Abstract
This paper reports result of the application of silica supported 10 wt.% MoP catalyst for hydrogenation of acetic acid. The catalyst was prepared using impregnation method followed by a Temperature Programmed Reduction. The prepared catalyst was characterized using XRD, XPS, TPR, N2 chemisorption methods. The catalytic activity was evaluated in a fixed bed flow micro reactor in isothermal condition at temperatures between 250-300 degrees C and total pressure from 8.6 to 30.6 atm with acetic acid Liquid Hourly Space Velocity (LHSV) of 1.023 h(-1) in the presence of H2 flow. Ethyl acetate was the main product in these reaction conditions which suggests that esterification reaction of ethanol with acetic acid takes place in the presence of this catalyst.
