Abstract
Newspapers are one of the most important media channels that people rely on as a source of information. Nowadays, newspapers appear in two different versions-print and online newspaper. These two versions have common similarities between them. However, they also exhibit several differences that single them apart. Previous researches highlight the differences between the two versions of newspapers in terms of content, accessibility and structure. This study investigates the differences between the print and online versions of the United Arab Emirates-based newspaper Gulf News, and provides possible justifications for the differences in light of Grice's four maxims. Results show that there are many differences in terms of content, length of headlines and word choice. Other differences include dates of publication, updating of articles details givens and other news features. These differences are found to be a consequence of modality, space provided and targeted audience.
