Abstract
Twenty-six cases of anal and perianal suppuration in patients with Crohn's disease managed over a 12-year period in a Department of Gastroenterology and Proctology (P(r) Biadillah) are reviewed. Young adults accounted for 34 % of cases. Males predominated slightly (57.7 %). Anal and perianal suppuration occurred as the first manifestation in 38 % of cases. Concomitant involvement was ileocecal in 38.4 % of cases, colonic in 50 % of cases and rectal in 70 % of cases. Lesions were secondary in 66.7 % of cases and primary in only 33.3 %. Spontaneous healing of anal and perianal lesions under systemic medical therapy was seen in 80 % of cases. Proctologic surgery was successful in 75 % of cases. These results are compared with previously reported data.
