Abstract

Chemistry Chemistry, Multidisciplinary Physical Sciences Science & Technology
The thermal behaviour of two series of aromatic polyimides in air and nitrogen atmosphere have been investigated. The results indicated that the polymers were easier to decompose in air than in nitrogen, with 52-58% residue remaining in nitrogen versus 3-5% in air, at 900 degrees C. The presence of methyl substituents on phenyl ring, in the diamine component, led to slightly lower decomposition temperature and higher glass transitions.
