Abstract
Nowadays, green nanotechnology is gaining attention due to its inexpensive, non-toxic nature, and potential applications to control pathogenic insects. In the present research work, the silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) have been synthesized by the green synthesis method. The optical, morphological, and structural properties have been confirmed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and UV-visible spectroscopy (UV-vis). Furthermore, the fundamental goal of this study is to develop eco-friendly biosynthesized nanoparticles to combat the relative efficacy of Achyranthes aspera extract (ethanolic) and silver nanoparticles on larvae of Aedes albopictus (Skuse). Various concentrations of A. aspera extract and silver nanoparticles are used against larvae of Ae. Albopictus, and percentage mortality, adult emergence inhibition, and changes in morphology of larvae are analyzed. In addition, results indicated significant difference in efficacy of A. aspera extract and silver nanoparticles against mosquito larvae. The maximum mortality with silver nanoparticles was 100% (at 6 ppm) and that with extract was 86.9% (at 400 ppm). On the other hand, the silver nanoparticles caused 100% inhibition of adult emergence, whereas that with extract is 72%. Furthermore, it is concluded that this study has potential benefits for biological sciences as well as the medical industry.
