Abstract
Knoevenagel condensation between substituted salicylaldehyde (1) and the active methylene compound containing pyridine ring (2) in the presence of L-proline was carried out. L-Proline was utilized as an efficient organocatalyst for the environmentally benign synthesis. The reaction has been done under conventional as well as under microwave conditions. The latter procedure has been found to be much more efficient in terms of time and yield.
