Abstract
Lymphatic malformations are congenital vascular malformations of the lymphatic channels. These most commonly present in the skin and subcutaneous tissue. Cavity chylous accumulation is also reported. Solid organ affection by lymphatic malformation is possible but extremely rare. We report a case of a newborn diagnosed by antenatal ultrasound to have a left suprarenal mass. He was treated postnatally by surgical resection. A literature review and discussion of treatment options follows.
•Visceral lymphatic malformations are rare benign lesions that can represent a diagnostic and management challenge especially in the neonatal period.•Symptoms of such lesions can range from totally asymptomatic found on imaging for another indication to symptoms caused by pressure on surrounding structures (dysphagia, pain, feeding difficulties, abdominal distension…etc).•Wide spread utilization of antenatal ultrasound as standard of care during pregnancy is expected to increase detection of lesions that otherwise would remain undiagnosed until later in adulthood.•Antenatally, diagnosed lesions or anomalies should be managed by antenatal transfer to a higher center with adequate surgical capabilities.
