Abstract
Acute infection of the meninges presents with a characteristic combination of pyrexia, headache and meningism. This study was conducted to identify prevalence of potential drug-drug interaction (pDDIs) in medication profiles of patients with meningitis. and to categorize pDDIs according to levels of severity and documentation. A cross-sectional design was used, which included evaluation of the medical records of 332 patients. The patients suffering from meningitis including both males and females were part of this study. In this study 50.3% were females and 49.7% were males. Most frequent drug/drug interaction was the isoniazid/pyrazinamide rifampin-quinine sulfate that was 42%. This study demonstrated a high prevalence of pDDIs in meningitis patients. Most of the interactions were of moderate severity, however major, minor and contraindicated interactions were also recorded.
