Abstract
Synthetic biscoumarins 1-19 were screened to check their anti-leishmanial activity. Out of nineteen, analogs 2 (IC50 = 46.95 +/- 1.23 mu M), 4 (IC50 = 63.03 +/- 0.20 mu M), 5 (IC50 = 41.35 +/- 0.51 mu M), 6 (IC50 = 35.62 +/- 0.15 mu M), 7 (IC50 = 75.35 +/- 0.35 mu M), 10 (IC50 = 82.36 +/- 1.93 mu M), 11 (IC50 = 76.45 +/- 0.13 mu M), 16 (IC50 = 59.21 +/- 1.00 mu M), 18 (IC50 = 75.73 +/- 1.54 mu M), and 19 (IC50 = 76.43 +/- 0.04 mu M) exhibited moderate to weak anti-leishmanial potential, if compared with the standard pentamidine (IC50 = 5.09 +/- 0.04 mu M), whilst rest of the analogs were found to be inactive.
