Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate crude extract, fractions and compounds isolated from Pistacia integerrima galls for various in vitro biological activities. The isolated constituents include two flavonoids (1 & 2) and three pentacyclic triterpenes (3-5) from the chloroform fraction of P. integerrima. The crude extract with various fractions were assessed for carbonic anhydrase-II, alpha-chymotrypsin, urease inhibition and antioxidant activities. The crude extract/fractions and its compounds showed mild-moderate inhibition of urease enzyme, however in case of carbonic anhydrase-II, alpha-chymotrypsin inhibition, it was found to be negligibly effective. Furthermore, the crude extract and isolated flavonoids (1 & 2) showed excellent antioxidant activity against DPPH. The percent inhibition was 82.53, 54.13, 97.89 and 80.12 for EtOAc, n-hexane, chloroform and methanol fractions respectively. The isolated compounds 1 and 2 also exhibited 94.51% and 87.52% at loo mu g/ml DPPH inhibition respectively. Our data exhibited that the plant extract and isolated compounds 1 & 2 are potential new antioxidant sources, need further exploration for its clinical application.
