Abstract
The current study aimed to assess the level of adherence and association between respondents' characteristics among diabetes outpatients in Warangal south India. A cross-sectional study faceto-face interviews were conducted using Morisky Green Levine (MGL) Medication Adherence Scale. Among the respondents, 11.4% (n = 46), 66.7% (n = 268), and 21.9% (n = 88) reported high, moderate, and low levels of medication adherence, respectively. Factors associated with the level of medication adherence were patient age (p = 0.021), education (p < 0.001), and occupational status (p < 0.001), disease duration (p < 0.001) type of current diabetes treatment (p < 0.001) presence of comorbidities (p < 0.001) and number of visits to physician (p < 0.001). This study showed that a quarter of the adults exhibited medication non adherence. To address this pressing challenge, patient counseling and education should be provided to raise patients' awareness about the significance of medication adherence.
