Abstract

A tunnel sampler, incorporating a May ‘Ultimate’ cascade impactor, has been used for the efficient collection of ambient aerosols. Its performance has been compared to those of an Andersen 1 ACFM impactor and a May impactor, both sampling directly from the free wind. It is concluded that the tunnel sampler offers a much enhanced performance for sampling large (> 8 μm diameter) particles.
