Abstract
The effect of some active methylene containing heterocyclic compounds, namely barbituric acid, thiobarbituric acid and 3-methyl-1-phenylpyrazol-5-one on alpha-cyano-3,4,5-trimethoxycinnamonitrile and ethyl alpha-cyano-3,4,5-trimethoxycinnamate (1a,b) was investigated. The structure of the new products was substantiated by their IR, H-1-NMR and mass spectra.
