Abstract

ATLANTIC OCEAN BOUNDARY LAYERS DIMETHYL SULFIDE ECOLOGICAL CONCENTRATION ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES ONE-DIMENSIONAL CALCULATIONS SIMULATION SULFUR CYCLE SULFUR DIOXIDE SULFURIC ACID
The authors do a one dimensional calculation of the effect of sea salt aerosols on the ability of the marine boundary layer to act as a sink for sulfur dioxide released due to the oxidation of dimethyl sulfide in the tropical south Atlantic. They base this model around shipboard measurements of sulfur compounds from air samples. They model sulfur dioxide, DMS, and sulfuric acid vertical profiles, daily variations, and turbulence effects.
