Abstract
Solid-state phosphors with apatite structure attract great attention due to their versatile chemical composition featuring a flexible crystal structure that provides crystallographic sites for occupation by single and multiple doping with various activators. These are the main reasons for considering these phosphors for potential application in various fields, like solid-state lighting and displays. This paper reports on the tuning of photoluminescence emission (PL) over the whole visible region, having maximum peaks at around 450 (blue), 484 (cyan), and 576 nm (yellow), owing to the occupation of the activator Ce3+ ions in various crystallographic sites (Y-(1) and Y-(2)), and to the energy transfer among various dopants in the Y5Si3O12N:Ce3+\Dy3+ single-phase oxonitridosilicate phosphors. Color-tunable Y5Si3O12N: Ce3+\Dy3+ phosphors were successfully synthesized by a method of high-temperature solid-state reaction. Under 359 nm ultra violet (UV) light excitation, the photoluminescence color can efficiently be tuned from the deep blue emission color to cyan and white by simply adjusting the concentration of the doped Ce3+ and Dy3+ ions.
