Combining MXene-hydrogel with a flexible photonic crystal film, a team of researchers led by Mingzhu Li report a highly efficient pho-tothermally responsive actuator, which can mimic the muscle-driven wing flapping of butterflies and achieve a dynamic structural color imaging system.
