Abstract
We have observed the lambda 1250 mu m flux in 8 elliptical galaxies using the MPIfR 7-channel bolometer system attached to the IRAM 30-m telescope. Five of the galaxies are detected at more than 3 sigma, two are tentatively detected and for one we obtained an upper limit. For two of the detected galaxies, the CO(2-1) line makes a significant contribution to the measured lambda 1250 mu m flux. A comparison of the lambda 1250 mu m fluxes, corrected for the CO(2-1) line contribution, with IRAS 60 and 100 mu m data shows that there is a cold dust component (T-d less than or similar to 20 K) in two of the ellipticals. The other galaxies have lambda 1250 mu m fluxes consistent with a one-temperature component, with T-d typically between 20-30 K.
