Abstract
Tooth-colored dental restorations had to have an adequate color stability for having overall success. Color stability is known as one of the prerequisites for long-term aesthetics. Therefore, the current review is discussing tooth-colored resin restoration color stability and the factors affecting it. Dental restorations are prone to staining, due to a variety of extrinsic and intrinsic factors. Resin matrix type, filler particle dimensions, polymerization depth, and type of coloring agents are all affecting the extent of color stability of resin restorations. In addition, discoloration of light-activated resin-based materials is affected by the type of photoinitiator system, organic compound matrix, and light-curing unit used for polymerization, as well as the irradiation times. Other factors important to stability include the degree of surface roughness and the duration of exposure to staining solutions, along with their PH level and temperature. Despite many improvements in the chemical composition of contemporary tooth-colored restorations, color stability remains a challenge, and material selection must be carefully considered.
