Abstract
A colloidal gold-bound nano particle comprised of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG)-thiol and TNF-alpha molecules, CYT-6091 is poised to play an important role in cancer therapy. Various studies have reported the product's efficacy in reducing solid tumor growth. Preclinical studies and phase I trials of CYT-6091 alone or followed by other therapies (e.g., thermal therapy, cryotherapy and radio frequency ablation) showed the agent to have dramatic effects on tumors because it specifically accumulated in tumor tissues. No significant toxicological or adverse events were noticed, encouraging the clinical use of CYT-6091 in oncology. Additional clinical studies need to confirm the product's benefits, and challenges remain to be tackled to achieve this goal.
