A herd of camels comprising of 700 animals had been struck by camel contagious ecthyma in the mid-lands of Saudi Arabia. The morbidity rate was 24% while the mortality rate was zero per cent. The virus was serologically identified and the disease was reproduced in susceptible camels. Experimentally-infected sheep were refractory to the infection. Gross and histopathological lesions were described and the disease situation was discussed.
