Etiology of stroke remains unknown in 20%–30% of patients. Transesophageal echocardiogram has been considered the gold standard procedure to detect cardiac sources of emboli. Cardiovascular MRI has emerged as a valuable tool to detect cardiac source of emboli in cryptogenic ischemic strokes.
