Leguminosae

A new tridesmosidic cycloartane type glycoside, cephalotoside A was isolated from the roots of Astragalus cephalotes var. brevicalyx in addition to the known glycosides cyclocanthosides A, D and E. The structure of the new compound was determined by spectral (IR, 1H- and 13C-NMR, and FABMS) and chemical (acetylation) methods and established as 3 β- ( β- d-xylopyranosyl)oxy-16 β- ( β- d-glucopyranosyl)oxy-24- ( β- d-xylopyranosyl)oxy-cycloartane-6a,25-diol.
